I stopped at typographic fiction last term. It was an attempt to take letterforms and create other things out of it. And the focus was on creating objects, objects whose form resembled letterforms. Letters were the starting point and It ended up with letters that looked like furniture, clay sculptures or even toys. The main focus here is on Typographic form. Typographic function, objects that occupy three dimensional space, and may be even production and distribution of letterforms(typefaces).
At this point, is typography even relevant anymore? What aspect of typography remains? What principles can be taken forward?
We can start by addressing the gaps:
My inquiry is very ambiguous. I define it by what I am not interested in rather than what I am interested in.
So what am I interested in? We can start addressing this by taking some of the things that I like about my project.
I am interested in typographic form, three dimensionality of typographic form, space, toys, sculpture and perhaps furniture. The idea of monopoly of typefaces could also be potentially interesting. Since I am not really interested in the meaning of the letters, changing the context in which the form exists should automatically change meaning. So am I creating a new order of meaning, and am I interested in that meaning?
Other than that, what other things could be interesting to inquire about; Or what would I like to dive into next based on the above mentioned topics?
Cultural objects, stolen objects, museum objects?
